"SPIRIT OF SABLE"

Volume 1 Issue 3 Monthly Newsletter November 2009

                   Commander's Corner
Comrades,

November is the time of the year to be putting in extra effort for the support of our troops. Nancy Badejo has collected well over $12,000.00 in coupons for our troops oversees. This is an on-going effort so please keep bring your clipped coupons to the Post. Should you live outside the El Cajon area, just mail clipped coupons to VFW Post 2275, attn: Nancy Badejo, 136 Chambers, El Cajon, CA 92020.

Our membership incentive is continuing through the December Post meeting. Please see Senior Vice Commander Keith MacDonald’s article for additional information. As you know, our goal is 100% renewals by December 31st.

A Big thank you to Auxiliary President Sheri and all of the wonderful Ladies that do so much work around the Post. I can never thank you enough!

Thank you for your continued support of our efforts.

Yours in Comradeship,
Doug Carrington

Madame President

Sisters,

The holidays are fast approaching and I hope you will be keeping our veterans and active duty and their families in your hearts and prayers. We will be putting together holiday baskets for those in need this holiday season and we need your help. There will be a box in the lounge for you to donate non-perishable items to help us fill these baskets. Please see Barbara Cimmarusti or Bobbi Carmichael and let them know how you can help.

We have adopted a National Guard unit right here in El Cajon who will be deploying to Afghanistan in March 2010. We will be collecting books, DVDs, toiletries and non-perishable snacks for both men and women to help our unit be a little more comfortable. Please look for the collection box and see Nancy Badejo to let her know of anything you can donate.

A BIG thank you goes to our cancer chairman, Marilyn Richardes. She did an awesome job (as usual!) on her Golf for the Cure as well as her pumpkin decorating contest. We were able to raise a good amount of money to donate to cancer aid and research.

I would also personally like to thank all of you who help in the kitchen. You are always there, never complaining (well most of the time) and providing wonderful meals for our members and their families. I would also like to thank Keith MacDonald, Doug Carrington, Ed McCoy and Mike Thompson for helping the auxiliary with our meals. It is wonderful we can all help each other out.

Some upcoming events:

• Check the calendar for Post and auxiliary meals.
• 7th – Marine Corps Ball
• 11th – Veteran’s Day ceremony hosted by VFW     11:00 a.m.
• 11th – Auxiliary and Post meetings
• 24th – Auxiliary District Membership Meeting 6:30 p.m.
• 26th – Thanksgiving

As we are approaching the end of the year there are still some members who have not renewed their membership. After December 31, 2009 you will no longer be able to use the lounge, attend meetings or be eligible for your well deserved cancer grant if needed. If you are having difficulty or you know someone in need please let myself or our membership chairman, Susan MacDonald know and we will do all we can to help you or a needy sister.

Please try and attend our meetings. If you need transportation please let one of the officers know and we will be sure to get you there. This is where decisions are made and your input counts and is important!!

I hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving and thank you for all you do!!!!!!!!!!!

Sheri Carrington
President

Comrades,

The Post membership is moving along, as of this writing the Post is at 86.49%.We only need 72 more members to make 100%. Only twenty-two people have taken advantage of the incentive program offered by the post.

Comrades the Holidays are rapidly approaching, now is the time to pay your dues before you get caught up in the hustle of the Season and forget to do it.

If dues are not paid by December 31, 2009, your membership is no longer valid. So please pay your dues now. Congratulations to Charles Girvin III. Charles won the drawing for the Life Membership drawn at the October meeting.

Quartermaster’s Notes

Hello Comrades: We are now into the holiday season, and with that let’s keep our comrades who are in harms way in our prayers. Membership is the life blood of our organization we are continuing to reach our continuous members so if you know of a member who has not paid there dues please remind them to do so, also we will have another chance for a free life membership drawing at our November meeting. Comrades keep in mind that the meals that we provide are the only way we can provide assistance to our comrades.

Yours in Comradeship,
Ed McCoy
