Commander's Corner
Greetings Comrades,
Commander John Sallee is still in the VA hospital. Visitors are welcome.
Hello Sisters and Comrades,
January was a very busy month, We attended the Council of Administration in Sacramento, as well as the Department Voice of Democracy Banquet and the Department President's Home Coming which by the way was very fun.
We had a great turn out for the First District Official Visit. Sister Sherie Carrington and Doug Carrington did a great job, thank you to both of you.
On February 11, 2012 we will be having a "Sweet Heart Dinner Dance" at SABLE. A Prime Rib dinner will be served 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and music and dancing from 7:00 to 9:00. Donations ARE $13.00 per person or $25.00 per couple. We hope you can make it.
Sisters. I personally invite you to come to our meetings, remember, this is your Auxiliary too, and your participation in the meetings would be greatly appreciated. We meet the second Wednesday of each month I hope I can see you there.

Sr. Vice Commander
Fellow Comrades,
I hope you're having prosperous and great New Year so far.
In February we are having a Valentines Dinner and Dance on Saturday the 11th at 1700 with Prime Rib and fixings for only $13.00 each or $25.00 per couple. What a GREAT deal. So mark that date on your calendars.
I'm also going to be e-mailing my contact at the USS Midway to see if we can get on the Ship sometime in February. When I confirm a date I'll let you know so we can get a crew together of about four to promote the Buddy Poppy Program and recruit new members for the V.F.W.
Our Commander John Sallee is still in the VA Hospital being operated on and recovering from those surgeries. He would very much like to have visitors so please go out and see him. I know he would appreciate it.
Your Friend and Patriot,
Robert S. Fulton

In Our Corner
Every day we see on television, read about it in the newspaper or hear on the radio about someone in another town, another state or another country about a member of a community who stepped up to make a difference. It is also refreshing to know that someone in our community of veterans has made an effort to make a difference as well.
The men and women of VFW Post 2275 have made it a mission to a difference to the veterans of San Diego County. In a recent interview with Jim Higgins, VFW 2275 Post Surgeon and Wheelchair Games Chairman, I was given the opportunity to ask about "The Poker Walk," a fundraising event established to benefit those restricted to the use of wheelchairs.
When asked how "The Poker Walk" began, Jim responded that, "it began around 2004, my son who is in a wheelchair; I did a fundraising for him when he was a teenager at Cajon Speedway.' And, I got some insight to some people down there and they did a gracious for races thing and they raised like $1800 to $2000 in one night for these kids to go to the races." Jim continued that, "I was walking down the street one day or listening to the radio and I heard this advertisement for a "poker run" and I know it belong to motorcycles, and I said why not a "poker walk."
On November 19 2011, Jim Higgins and a number of VFW Post 2275 members participated in such an event to raise funds and awareness on behalf of the wheelchair bound throughout the county of San Diego. The members exhibited a great sense of pride and camaraderie as they there way through various locations in downtown El Cajon. At each location a series of cards were dealt to determine among the participants who had the winning hand. At the end of "The Poker Walk," the final winning hand would be the winner of half the pot, the other goes to the VA Wheelchair Games, collected earlier in the day. As is usual, the winner determines if all of the proceeds go toward the VA Wheelchair Games.
Even though the focus of this interview centered on one event, it pales in comparison to all the events and efforts undertaken by the all the organizations operating under the banner of the Veterans Memorial Association of which the VFW Post 2275 is a part of. Our community of veterans is a special breed that exhibits the same sense of pride and dedication while serving our nation.
